Oldies But Goldies My Music

Mandi Wilson & Canticle

Canticle were a group of three – Mandi Wilson, Tony Osler, and Norman Coates – who, in 1971, worked their way over to England, as singers on a boat from Cape Town, where a recording contract awaited them. Cutting their teeth in rough working men’s clubs in Wales and England they graduated to appearing on the bill with Mike and Bernie Winters, Moira Anderson, Daniel Boone, and others. Their single “Little Ray of Sunshine’ sold well in Europe and Japan, but the group broke up shortly after their album was released and Mandi Wilson took on the mantel, doing promotional gigs around Europe. Wilson and Osler returned to settle in South Africa, and Coates stayed on in the UK.
